Stop Sabotaging Your Diet

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

By Laura Pueschel When youre getting ready to start a new diet do you already feel doomed to fail? Are you saying to yourself, Okay, Ill give this diet a shot, but it probably wont work either? There are many reasons that a lot of diets dont work, or work for awhile and then you start putting the weight back on. Here are some things you can do about it. 1 Stop saying Im on a diet. Doesnt just the thought of being on a diet make you feel deprived? And besides, unless youre one of those people who need to drop 5 pounds quickly to fit into that outfit for the reunion, youre looking for a long term solution. You want a way to take the weight off and keep it off. When you say Im on a diet, that suggests that some day youll be off the diet and go back to eating the way you used to, which is when the weight youve worked so hard to lose will come back. Tell yourself you have a new eating plan, and get excited about all the new healthy foods you get to enjoy. 2 Dont expect perfection. There will be days when youre really motivated and do everything right, exercise, eat the right food at the right time, everything perfect. And then there will be most days, when you dont make the time to exercise, eat some-thing really fattening, or both. The important thing to remember is not to beat yourself up over it. Youre going to have good days and bad days, and many days in between. Just dont give up. Whats important is that you keep working toward your goal. 3 Dont set your goals too high. So, you want to lose 100 pounds to get to your ideal weight . If you focus on that one number youll get intimidated before you even start. Instead, break it up into manageable 10 pound goals and find a way to celebrate each milestone, it will help keep you motivated. 4 Dont expect instant results. Youll see ads everywhere promising lose 14 lbs. in 7 days, or drop 10 lbs. by next week. Dont believe it. Try them if you must, but remember these fads only work for the short term, the weight will come right back on as soon as you stop. Think about how long it took you to put on the weight you want to lose, and then give yourself a break. What you need to remember is that weight loss is a process that is ongoing. You learn along the way what works for you and what you need to do to stay at your goal weight once you reach it. Just dont give up. How to Properly Plan for Successful Weight Loss

Monday, July 30th, 2007

By Jim O’Neill Before taking actions in any problem we encounter, there should always be a plan first. That is, if we want to come up with positive results. You wouldn’t want to enter a battle without preparing how to defeat the enemy, would you? Attempting a task without planning is like building a house without a blueprint or playing against a basketball team without planed plays with your teammates. How could you expect a good outcome? Weight loss is not at all different from the above mentioned plan-necessary situations. It also involves taking actions in proper ways that need to be perfectly planned in order to bring satisfying results. Here are the four key elements you will for making your weight loss plan a success. Setting a Goal: Okay, so your weight is somewhere around 20% above the considered normal for your height. You tend to eat more than 5 regular meals a day. You’re certain that you’re obese or at least overweight. Now, the question is, where do you want your weight to be?Setting a goal is the first step in planning for weight loss. Know what you want to accomplish. This way, the road you are taking is clear. You can keep track of your journey and whether or not you are going along in the right direction. With a goal in mind, you are always motivated to finish a task, or in some cases, to start doing it. Be Definite: Setting a specific goal when planning for weight loss improves your chances of success. You just need to be clear and definite with what you want to happen. Vague aims such as ‘I’d like to be healthier’ or ‘I need to lose a few pounds’ tend to produce half-hearted efforts and poor results. Instead, state your goal distinctly: ‘I want to lose 1 to 2 pounds this week and every week’ or ‘I want to trim my waist line from 40″ down to 38″ by the end of the month’. If you need to, write it down and put it where you will always see and read it. This way, you’ll always be reminded of what you want and need to accomplish by the end of the month, the week or even the day. Be Realistic: In establishing a definite weight loss goal, make sure that it is possible to accomplish first. How can a goal like ‘I’ll lose 15 lbs. in just a week’ happen if all of the evidence presented by research suggests that you should only burn 1 to 2 lbs in a week? Goals need to be sensible so that they are within reason to be able to obtain. What happens when you set a goal and don’t reach it no matter how hard you tried because it wasn’t really achievable? You will only get depressed and disappointed which are two of the psychological causes of obesity. And the problem just becomes a vicious cycle with no end to it. Strategizing: After carefully defining a goal of what you want to achieve with your weight loss efforts and keeping it in mind, the next step is planning on how to accomplish it. Planning involves proper scheduling of activities to be done throughout the whole day for a certain period of time including exercises, meals, sleeping and waking. It comprises of the time these activities should be done, the duration and in the case of eating meals, the food to be consumed and what amounts. This way, inappropriate spur-of-the-moments decisions can be avoided. A proper and effective weight loss plan consists of quality time for performing such activities. That is, allow enough time to meet the objectives correctly. For example, sleep should be scheduled to last for around 7 to 8 hours a day so that you’ll be able to get enough rest. Lack of sleep may cause improper eating habits the next day.Again, plans should be relatively realistic. Include only time and activities you know for yourself you can accomplish for a given period of time. Also, as you finish preparing your weight loss plan, you might want to write it down since you can’t always remember when you’re supposed to do each part of the plan. Post it in a place where you can always see and read it to remind you what your plans are for the day. Try your best not to skip anything in your scheduled plan so as not to ruin the effectivness of it. What You Need To Know About Gifts

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

By Thomas Morva People basically are affectionate and love to give perfect gifts to the people who are important to them. However, some people, especially those who do not love to go shopping, find it hard to buy gifts for loved ones and friends during special occasions. So here are some ideas that can help you decide on that special gift for your loved one for that special occasion. If you are planning to buy a birthday gift, first you should think about the personality and the interests of the person to whom you will give it. Your gift should depend on what he or she would appreciate based on personal interests. It can be favorite designer jeans, toys or books for kids, jewelry like earrings or bracelets for women, and cologne or ties for men. Or if you have the skills to make homemade gifts such as scented candles or sketches, you can do so because the recipient will appreciate the extra effort. An anniversary is an occasion usually celebrated by couples to mark the passage of a year in their relationship. There are lots of anniversaries that can be celebrated, but the most common are wedding anniversaries. During an anniversary, you can give your partner something that he or she has been eyeing for some time. This can be a household item, sports equipment, a beautiful dress or elegant suit, or sparkling jewelry. Or if you want to be a little sentimental, you can give him or her something that reminds you of your past, such as picture frame with your picture during your first date. Aside from birthdays and anniversaries, Christmas is an occasion that is also celebrated annually. Without gifts, Christmas would not be complete because this is the time of giving and sharing. Christmas gifts are not hard to find, since during the holiday seasons, there are lots of options for you. Clothes, toys, and any other special items are widely available. You just have to pick something that suits the person whom you will give it to. Gifts need not be expensive. Whatever the occasion is, what matters most is how you remembered the person and not the amount you spent for the gift you gave. Choosing the Right Tradeshow(s)

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

By Jim Deady Well, first of all you don’t just choose one show and let that be your agenda for the year; you plan your schedule strategically. I would suggest, depending on your industry, let’s take manufacturing for example, you choose no fewer than two shows per year and more, if warranted (more on that in a minute). Two shows, one in the spring and one in the fall, allows your organization the benefit from any sales cycles that may exist. More to the point it allows your sales force to interface with prospects and suspects, not to mention customers, which may only get perfunctory attention during the rest of the year. And, it provides excellent momentum for introduction of new products and services. More than two shows? Absolutely, if your organization has opportunities in sectors of large market categories. But which shows? Here are some suggestions to consider: If the show is National, where can your space be positioned and what is the trend in exhibitors? Can your space be positioned near the entrance or are you going to relegated to some obscure space in the back of the hall? When the calls to entry comes in, are the same number of exhibitors signed up this year as last OR is it negative gain? Is the show manager, your industry association? And, if so, are they offering symposia on meaningful industry issues (or maybe no round tables or topics at all)? If so, can your sales manager be a speaker or at least on a round table discussion panel? If not, chances are your customers will feel the same and skip the show. I would poll your ten top customers and ask what show(s) they attend. And, if there are several new prospects or suspects that have high potential, ask them as well. A blinding glimpse of the obvious? Probably. Good marketing? You bet. What if the shows your organization is considering are simply Regional or Local in scope? I would call the show manager and ask about attendance over the last several years. If it’s up or steady; it’s definitely worth considering. If not, what’s the point? If it’s Regional, I would definitely ask the same set of questions but I would look for the participation of my competition as well. If your competition is there, you may be conspicuous by your absence. If not, it may be a golden opportunity, especially if the attendance is up from one year to the next. If your competition has been there but not recently, you may want to ask some more questions and see if the right set of prospects and suspects fits your goals. If it’s Local, I would definitely check the venue. If the venue is a hotel or motel, it may be OK but only if you are offered adequate space (definitely not a hallway). If it’s a convention center or exhibition hall, definitely worth considering - the venue is right around the corner and you can rotate manning the booth throughout the show so it’s convenient for everybody. Remember, NO MATTER WHAT THE SHOW, the organization that ends up with the most visitors to its space is the organization that wins. Short Trendy Hairstyles - What’s HOT for 2007

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

By Breyen Rhodes A short trendy hair style for the modern woman can make life a lot easier. There’s less time spent taking care of it - what could you do with that extra 15-25 minutes you’ll save not having to style and dry your long locks? Something short and ‘today’ can also boost your confidence and even make you look younger! However, it’s critical to match the short hairstyle to the shape of your face and to your personality and lifestyle. It’s important to have a balanced look between your upper body, face and hair. Below are some short trendy hair styles that should get you some looks in 2007. THE PIXIE CUT A Chopped up and brazenly messy do. Made popular in the 60’s - remember Twiggie? It can look simply amazing with the summer weather coming. Toss in some highlights, slick down the bangs or go with a bold color to add variety or make a statement. This style will really show off your face so be sure you’re confident about your facial features and skin before going with this hairstyle. If your eyes are a central feature of your face, this style can really make them ‘pop’. You should also have delicate, “fine boned”, angular features to your face. The predominate feature of this style are the close-cropped layers that frame your face. It’s also very short and close-cropped around your ears and back of the neck. Other features are a many short pieces that vary in length so there are many places on your hair that are even. Halle Berry has sported this hair style very successfully over the years. Sharon Stone too. BOB’s The new Bob has edgy styles and variations that men, women and children are choosing for this years cut. Salons are reporting it as the most asked for style and expect the trend to hold for quite some time. This haircut could work on women aged 21 to easily 50. What makes a bob work well is soft, straight hair. The rest is a question of face structure. Women with longer faces should opt for bangs and a shorter cut, while those with round faces should have a Bob with side bangs that are cut away from the face. Here are a few that should be fit, flirty and fabulous this year: Inverted Bob A great hairstyle if you have really fine hair. It’s one of the few trendy and most popular hairstyles that women with baby fine hair can wear and look great. Go chic sophisticate to ultra funky with punches of colors, various layers, and creative highlights. There’s lots to choose from - the chic sleek pageboy image, asymmetrical, or going as bold as you dare - or something in between. This bob can work with a wide range of hair textures. There are styles for curly, frizzy, straight, smooth, and wavy hair. Short Bob Best for oval or square faces. You can do many things with this hairstyle - cut some short, medium or long layers to spice it up. For a totally different trendy look, flip your under ends out. Don’t get carried away. Or get brave and add some color to throw in some contrast. Or change the angles to give it a different look - go short on one side blended to longer on the other side. Use a longer version if your face is very round. Very straight hair suits this hair cut well. The general rule is the longest pieces of hair should fall just above the chin to keep the face hugging effect. Blunt Bob This hair style can make fine hair look thicker. However, be prepared to do a lot of hair straightening and maintenance with this hair style. Unless you are willing to straighten your hair every day, this hairstyle can be a pain for natural curly hair. Go with a blunt line and bangs above the brow. A more severe fringe gives this hairstyle its sharpness. But agin, if you have curly hair, you may want to go with one of the other hair styles. Curly Bob Great for those with a rounder face however Winona Ryder has made this style work for her with her square shaped face. Utilize layers to help detail your curls Make sure the length is longer than the chin and a tad longer on the neck to keep the style well balance and looking good. If you have spiral curls, don’t go too short on this style. You may want to trim a few of the individual curls to keep the bulk down. The bob is a timeless hairstyle. They are always “in” and seem to work well with natural curly hair. LONG AND SHORT If you have a more oval shaped faced, this may be the style for you. You can go from rocker chic if you have wavy hair to a look that appears to have wonderful body and life if you’re more on the fine, straight hair side. Make sure to keep the layers fairly long at the back and uneven all around. This hair style is about flow. For an optional look, add in uneven, heavy bangs that can be tucked behind either ear is popular too. SHORT SHAG Don’t go with this hair style if you have really thick or really fine hair. Other than that, this looks great with every other hair type. Your face type should be fairly delicate and have small features to really make this hairstyle “sizzle”. SHORT TRENDY HAIRSTYLES FOR OLDER WOMEN A short haircut for older women does not have to mean drab and boring. We all know that age is just a number right? Heck, you’re as old a you feel. Age is just a number so don’t feel you need to be put into a box with your hairstyle at this age. You’ve finally obtained an age where you have some much deserved time to spend on yourself so why not get a short trendy hairstyle that reflects your attitude and your desire to look youthful? Besides, short, trendy hairstyles can be easy to maintain, look absolutely fabulous and give you more time to spend on other things - even if you ‘look’ like you’ve been all day in the salon. Ask your stylist to cut your hair to a length of about 2 to 3 inches all over. There are gels and texturizers you can purchase to give you that “messy” look if that’s your style or should we say “attitude”?. These can be toweled in or applied with the fingers and directed when blowing dry. If you’d rather opt for a more classy or casual look no problem. There are many styles to choose from here too. Ask your stylist to cut your hair into contoured layers through the crown of your head. At the sides, your hair should be allowed to gently frame your face. This is an easy hairstyle to maintain if you have on “on the go” lifestyle. USE TECHNOLOGY There are many short hair styles that can have you looking fabulous this year. Everything from sophisticated to punk. If you want to see exactly how you’ll look in one of the new hairstyles, check out a few of the hairstyle picture services on the net. With some of the better ones, you can upload photos of yourself and see 100’s of great hairstyles on your own face - even in 3D - so you can see what you will look like from every angle. They’ll also let you browse the styles by your face shape, by featured celebrity hairstyle, or by hairstyle category. Antique Fountain Pens

Monday, July 16th, 2007

By Eddie Tobey The first practical fountain pen was patented by Lewis Waterman in 1884. Fountain pens were the first kind of pens to be used by men. However, the oldest surviving fountain pen belonged to a Frenchman named M.Bion dated to 1702. Antique fountain pens are prized possessions and are collector’s items as they are extremely unique. Most of the antique pens are very expensive as they are very rare and are not easily available in the market. Antique fountain pens as a result of their age need special care and handling techniques. These pens usually have ink filling mechanisms and differ greatly from the modern fountain pens. The cost of these antique fountain pens depends greatly on whom they belonged to and what material they are made up of. Other factors like the quality of the nib and the material used for the nib also help determine the price. In case, the nib is made of gold or silver, the prices automatically rises up a great deal. As most of these vintage pens have a history behind them, their prices rise accordingly as the demand becomes too high. In spite of being expensive, these pens are very popular amongst people who enjoy writing with fine pens and who have a passion for collecting pens belonging to different periods. The prices of these pens also depend on the case in which they are kept. If the cases are made of gold or silver or some high quality metal and are hand crafted, then the prices tend to be quite high. These rare fountain pens are not sold at wholesale outlets and are usually found in flea markets or old curio shops. One can purchase antique fountain pens through the special dealers dealing in antique pieces. Various websites also offer a range of vintage antique fountain pens and through a good search; one can purchase them at strikingly low prices. Get Clean on the Inside First for a Safe Weight Loss

Saturday, July 14th, 2007

By Foras Aje I was driving past the gym the other day and I was actually impressed at how full the building was with people diligently getting their workout for the day in. Perhaps its because it is summer time here in Los Angeles and everyone wants to look good for this time of the year. Well, as motivating as this may be, and as much as I honestly applaud their efforts, I couldnt help but wonder how many of these obviously dedicated people were concerned with not just the external appearance of health but the inside as well. It is documented that people spend loads of money on the new weight-loss pill or supplement guaranteed to ‘make you eat less and increase your metabolism…’ and in spite of whatever side effects the product may contain, the average Joe, still thinks this quick fix will be worth the risk. What most people fail to realize is most fitness experts and bodybuilders who may use or endorse such products have a tendency to atrophy and wear down prematurely as sooner or later, these bodies, enhanced by unnatural substances have a tendency to pretty much degenerate. Sure everyone wants to have the six-pack and the toned arms and all, and that is fine and of course worth striving for if one so desires, however, what should be of more importance is how clean the inside of the body is. This determines perhaps more than is realized just how one feels and speaking of a six-pack, if ones colon and visceral organs are free of excess weight and debris, naturally a decent looking mid-section will be evident. (Just food for thought) The average person is constantly carrying 10-15 pounds of un-eliminated feces in their bowels. This in itself has a toxic effect on the blood stream. Experts in autopsy have stated that in 60-70% of the colons examined, foreign matter such as worms and decades old feces-stones have been found still present within. Now, its not my intention to gross you out with the fact in the previous paragraph, but it is to hopefully make you realize how much more important it is to ensure that our insides are clean as we go about seeking to lose weight, at least the healthy way. Now, it is important to know that healing properties, not the calories, as most diet fads state, is the main factor for choosing a diet for a safe and effective weight loss. Therefore, fruits, some roots and mostly raw green leaf vegetables, which serve as nutrient giving items and intestinal brooms, should form the basis of a healthy diet when seeking to lose weight. These substances will serve to naturally combat chronic constipation which is the main indication of a clogged up system. Moreover, these are the items that provide one with the most natural sources of vitamins, minerals and fuel for day to living and borrowing from a cosmic law of nature, since you are what you eat, it goes without saying that if you want a safe and healthy weight loss, these items are of course your best bet. Sure, it is a great feeling to be able to see the awesome cuts in your ‘abs’ and arms when you look in the mirror, but feeling good on the inside as well and knowing that you are thoroughly cleansed internally should be of just as much importance as ‘getting ripped’ or slim. Remember, the cleaner you are on the inside and the freer you are of toxicity the quicker you can and will attain your goal of being in shape. Heres to health and happiness.
